چکیده

with break points in introns 11 and 13 resulting in loss of exons 12 and 13 (Figure 2A and B). Further examination of the region showed a 34-bp repeat (differing by only 1 bp) flanking the break points, suggesting homologous recombination as the mechanism for generating this deletion. The predicted result of this deletion would be that exon 11 splices directly to exon 14 and remains in frame, resulting in a protein of 685 amino acids, compared with the wild-type protein of 829 amino acids (Figure 2E). This was confirmed using complementary DNA from patient and control lymphocytes and sequencing the products (Figure 2C and D).

Herpes zoster ophthalmicus and varicella zoster virus vasculopathy.

Herpes zoster (HZ) corresponds to the reactivation of varicella zoster virus (VZV). Among adults, the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve is one of the most common sites of involvement. Vasculopathy caused by HZ is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, affecting structures such as the brain, which can lead to stroke. In this review, we analyzed the epidemiological and cli...

Varicella-zoster virus and cerebral aneurysm: case report and review of the literature.

We report a case of varicella-zoster vasculopathy that occurred in a 42-year-old renal transplant recipient with concurrent vertebral artery aneurysm and dissection. The patient was successfully treated with embolization and acyclovir therapy. Here, we review the English literature regarding the association of varicella-zoster virus infection with cerebral aneurysm.

Varicella Exposure in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a Low Resource Country: Successful Prophylaxis with Intravenous Immunoglobulins

Background: Varicella-zoster infection is a serious and potentially fatal disease, especially among newborns.Several studies have described postnatal varicella zoster exposure among neonates and reported on the efficacy of varicella-zoster immunoglobulins (VZIG) used as post-exposure prophylaxis. Unfortunately, VZIG is not available in Jordan. A limited number of studies have investigated the e...

Varicella zoster virus latency, neurological disease and experimental models: an update.

Varicella zoster virus (VZV), a ubiquitous neurotropic human herpesvirus, causes chickenpox (varicella) and then remains latent for decades in cranial nerve, dorsal root and autonomic nervous system ganglia along the entire neuraxis. Virus reactivation, most often after age 60, produces shingles (zoster), characterized by pain and rash usually restricted to 1-3 dermatomes. In elderly individual...
